FAQ

Why Rubber Bands?

Rubber may not be 100% sustainable but it’s a better option to buying single use plastic bands.

Most plastic plaiting bands are made from petroleum-based materials that are not biodegradable. This means that when they are discarded, they can persist in the environment for hundreds of years. They can also break down into smaller pieces over time, forming microplastics that can enter waterways and harm wildlife.

Benefits of using Rubber Plaiting Bands

Better Grip: Rubber plaiting bands provide better grip on the hair, which can be especially important when working with thick or coarse hair. The rubber bands are less likely to slip or slide out of the hair during braiding, resulting in a neater and more secure braid.

Stretchier: Rubber plaiting bands are generally more stretchy than plastic bands, which makes them easier to use when pulling hair tightly for braiding. This stretchiness also means that they are less likely to break when pulled tightly.

Less Damage: Rubber plaiting bands are gentler on the hair than plastic bands, which can cause more damage and breakage. The rubber bands are less likely to snag or pull on the hair, which can reduce the risk of split ends and other damage.

Environmentally Conscious: Rubber plaiting bands are considered to be a more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to plastic bands. Rubber is a natural material that can be sustainably harvested, whereas plastic is a petroleum-based product that is associated with a range of environmental issues, including pollution, resource depletion, and greenhouse gas emissions.

Is your packaging sustainable?

We aim to package our products in the most environmentally friendly way possible. However, some parts of our packaging will need to be recycled when it reaches you.

Mailing bags - 100% recyclable ♻️

Our mailing bags are made from 100% recyclable material. Biodegradable additive is added during the production process which acts as a catalyst to accelerate the degradation process, whereby the organic matter is broken down over time into elements found in nature such as CO2, water and biomass.

Our mailing bags are sourced in Ireland.

Rubber band packaging 100% recyclable ♻️

Kraft Paper Back - Kraft packaging is made from natural and sustainable materials, such as unbleached wood pulp. This makes it a more eco-friendly option compared to other types of packaging, as it is biodegradable and recyclable.

KPET FrontKPET packaging is 100% recyclable, making it an environmentally friendly option. PET plastic can be recycled into a variety of products, including new packaging materials.

Our rubber band packaging is sourced in Europe.

Are your rubber bands durable?

Yes! They are very hard to break. We cannot state they are unbreakable but they are a lot more durable than plastic.

Rubber is naturally elastic, which means that it can stretch and then return to its original shape without losing strength or shape. This elasticity allows rubber plaiting bands to stretch to fit the hair and then return to their original size, without becoming overstretched or breaking.

The are less likely to break during use compared to plastic bands. This is because rubber bands have better grip and more flexibility, which helps them stay in place and hold the hair firmly.
